James Botelho, Lee Harvey Oswald's 1959 Marine roommate at Santa Ana, said Oswald was not a communist or a Marxist!

James Botelho, Lee Harvey Oswald’s 1959 Marine roommate in Santa Ana, says that Oswald was not a communist or a Marxist

QUOTE

By the 1970s, Senator Richard Schweiker came to realize during the Church Committee deliberations that “everywhere you look, with him [Oswald] there are the fingerprints of intelligence.” [49]  Oswald’s exceptional fluency in Russian offers clues to understanding the purpose of his “defection” to the Soviet Union.  But long before Schweiker’s realization of the fingerprints of intelligence, Oswald’s Marine roommate in Santa Ana, James Botelho, knew that his buddy was not a genuine Marxist.  In an interview given to Mark Lane, Botelho observed that “Oswald was not a Communist or a Marxist.  If he was I would have taken violent action against him and so would many of the other Marines in the unit.” [50]  After Oswald’s defection was made public, Botelho told how an investigation at the Santa Ana Marine base was conducted purely for show:

“It was the most casual of investigations.  It was a cover-investigation so that it could be said there had been an investigation….Oswald, it was said, was the only Marine ever to defect from his country to another country, a Communist country, during peacetime.  That was a major event.  When the Marine Corps and American intelligence decided not to probe the reasons for the ‘defection,’ I knew then what I know now:  Oswald was on an assignment in Russia for American intelligence.”

Former Marine James Botelho – Oswald was the best roommate I ever had

ANDREW KREIG:

Recent disclosures exposing the cover-up that protected President John F. Kennedy’s killers can help the public understand today’s oft-mysterious terrorism-related news.

New books, declassified documents, and whistleblowers like Lee Harvey Oswald’s former Marine Corps bunkmate Jim Botelho bolster the already solid case that the Warren Commission deceived the public about Kennedy’s 1963 assassination and Oswald, the alleged assassin. Botelho, who became a California judge following his Marine service, is shown last month delivering his first

speech ever about Oswald, whom he described as “the best roommate I ever had” and a nice guy who never could have killed the president, as alleged.

The shocking tragedy of Kennedy’s death will remain important so long as the false accusations against Oswald obscure the real killers and their motives.

From study of how official circles implemented and still maintain the Kennedy murder cover-up, we can better understand potentially similar misreported and under-reported situations today. That understanding requires, in turn, appreciation for how government commissions, news organizations, museums, and academic institutions actually work when handling super-sensitive national security matters.

As one example, the late Time-Life Publisher Charles “CD” Jackson reigned in 1963 as the nation’s leading expert on psychological warfare, as a new book underscores, thus was not simply the publisher of the nation’s two most important magazines covering the JFK murder.

After Kennedy's assassination, Jackson, fresh from a stint as national security advisor to President Dwight Eisenhower, used his Time-Life clout to acquire exclusive rights to the Abraham Zapruder film of the killing and to the memoirs of Oswald’s widow, Marina. This control allowed Jackson's Time-Life staffers and successors to suppress publication of both the film and memoirs, except for cherry-picked excerpts that could advance the Warren Commission’s false narrative.

Very important blog post on James Botelho. John Armstrong has the notes of someone who was interviewed James Botelho who said Oswald tried to recruit him to train rebels in the hills who were fighting AGAINST Fidel Castro

Here is what James Botelho told that interviewer:

QUOTE

He’d wear t-shirts, but would stretch out and break the collars to make them more comfortable. Because of this, Botelho immediately recognized Lee in the Altgens photo.

Other marines thought he had influence, because he always got away with these infractions, while others wouldn’t. He even saluted left-handed.

He didn’t like guns, and refused to shoot. When he was given a top clearance clerk job LHO told Botelho that he had access to, and invented his shooting records – HE NEVER ACTUALLY QUALIFIED!

Oswald definitely was not “queer.”

LHO had a dry sense of humor

Liked chess

Loved symphonic music, esp. Tchaikovsky – “1812 Overture” Botelho talks of a Sgt. From Washington who used to play “twangy, honkey tonk music.” So Botelho and Oswald bought a hi-fit and drowned him out with symphonic music

At one point, LHO tells Botelho that he is going to Cuba to help train rebels in the hills who are fighting Castro (MONTEREY PARK?) He tried to get Botelho to go with him. He thought they could earn good money training troops.

David Bucknell told Botelho that Oswald’s Atsugi pay stubs (in Warren Commission) are important. The source of the check numbers trace back to various agencies linked to intelligence. (Botehlo has no idea where Bucknell is).

Of course Botelho’s testimony has been changed to slander Oswald with the charge of wanting to train soldiers for Fidel Castro when in reality Oswald told Botelho that he wanted to train OPPONENTS OF FIDEL CASTRO in the mountains. This is an extremely key point.

Lee Harvey Oswald may have been used as a patsy, according to the testimony of Jim Botelho, a retired judge who passed away last year and was alleged assassin Oswald’s roommate in the Marines.? Kiel quoted Botelho as saying, contrary to the Warren Report, Oswald “wasn’t acting like a Communist in the Marines. We would have beat him up. He was a good roommate.”

 3)  While reading "JFK and the Unspeakable" I was reminded of the story of

James Botelho:

"That Oswald was in fact a participant in a fake defector program was the

belief of James Botelho, his former roommate in Santa Ana. Botelho, who
later became a California judge, stated in an interview with Mark Lane
that Oswald's Communism was a pose. Botelho said: "I'm very conservative
now [in 1978] and I was at least as conservative at that time. Oswald was
not a Communist or a Marxist. If he was I would have taken violent action
against him and so would many of the other Marines in the unit. "

(James Botelho, interview by Mark Lane, cited by Jim Marrs, Crossfire: The
Plot That Killed Kennedy (New York: Carroll & Graff, 1 99 0 ) , p. 1 1 0 .
When I spoke with James Botelho by phone in June 2007 and read to him his
earlier statements on Oswald now cited in this text, he confirmed their
accuracy. He added, "I still feel that way [that Oswald was on an
assignment in Russia for American intelligence) . " Botelho said he liked
Oswald: " He was the best roommate I ever had. He pretty much let me
alone. He was quiet. We both liked classical music . " So far as Oswald's
being violent, Botelho said, " He didn't like violence. The thought of it
repulsed him. He wasn't afraid of it. He just thought of it as being
primitive. He wouldn't do to others what he didn't like done to him. "
Author's interview of James Anthony Botelho, June 1 6 , 2007.)

Judge Botelho said Oswald's " defection " was nothing but a U.S.
intelligence ploy: "I knew Oswald was not a Communist and was, in fact,
anti Soviet. Then, when no real investigation occurred at the base [after
Oswald's presence in the Soviet Union was made public] , 1 was sure that
Oswald was on an intelligence assignment in Russia . . . Two civilians
dropped in [at Santa Ana] , asked a few questions, took no written
statements, and recorded no interviews with witnesses. It was the most
casual of investigations. It was a cover-investigation so that it could be
said there had been an investigation . . . Oswald, it was said, was the
only Marine ever to defect from his country to another country, a
Communist country, during peacetime. That was a major event. When the
Marine Corps and American intelligence decided not to probe the reasons
for the 'defection,' I knew then what I know now: Oswald was on an
assignment in Russia for American intelligence."

Jim Botelho was a former Marine roommate of Lee Harvey Oswald and shared a room with him for approximately two months prior to his discharge; he later become a California judge. Botelho served in the United States Marine Corps from January 8, 1957, to January 8, 1960, and served with Lee Harvey Oswald from about March to September 1959, while both were attached to Marine Air Control Squadron No. 9, Marine Corps Air Facility, Santa Ann, California.

This is what is known as creating a legend.  The role that Oswald was playing was in laying a trail of evidence that would make the "defection" seem plausible to the Soviets.

One individual who recognized the legend immediately was Oswald's fellow Marine in Santa Ana, James Botelho, who knew that his buddy was not a genuine Marxist.  In an interview given to Mark Lane, Botelho observed that

“Oswald was not a Communist or a Marxist.  If he was I would have taken violent action against him and so would many of the other Marines in the unit.”

This may be the Russian newspaper, printed in San Francisco, that Oswald subscribed to:

Whatever level they thought his Russian had reached, Oswald's Marine buddies knew that he was teaching himself the language, as we can see from a quick glance at volume 8 of the Warren Commission Hearings and Exhibits (https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=36) :

James Anthony Botelho (p.315): "It was common knowledge that Oswald had taught himself to speak Russian." [Jim Garrison got a general to admit in the trial of Clay Shaw that the MARINES HAD TESTED OSWALD ON HIS RUSSIAN. WHICH MEANS THE MARINES WERE TEACHING OSWALD RUSSIAN]. Because the CIA was about to fake defect him to Russia as a spy.

David Christie Murray (p.319): "When I knew him, he was studying Russian."

Henry J. Roussel (pp.320-1): "I remember that Oswald could speak a little Russian ... I knew of Oswald's study of the Russian language ... I am under the impression that prior to studying Russian ..."

Mack Osborne (pp.321-2): "Oswald was at that time studying Russian. He spent a great deal of his free time reading papers printed in Russian ... with the aid of a Russian-English dictionary. ... Because of the fact that he was studying Russian, fellow Marines sometimes jokingly accused him of being a Russian spy."

FINAL QUESTION: CAN ANYONE FIND THE OBITUARY OR “FIND-A-GRAVE” FOR “JAMES ANTHONY BOTELHO” WHO WAS OSWALD’S MARINE ROOMMATE IN 1959 AT SANTA ANA?

If so please email me at Morrow321@aol.com
